Home of Manchester International Festival, hundreds of galleries, exhibitions and world-leading cultural events and the BBC’s huge, advanced broadcasting hub MediaCityUK, Manchester has built up a fierce reputation as one of the most exciting, creative cities in the world
Full of self-starters and innovators, Manchester is crying out for more affordable workspaces for makers, solopreneurs and micro-enterprise.
So what better place for us to launch our second container project, Pollard Yard?
Our goal: To establish one of Manchester’s biggest creative co-working communities, and give hundreds of aspiring entrepreneurs, creatives and small businesses the space they need to grow.
Launching: Summer 2019
Location: Pollard Street East, Manchester. The site neighbours hip Ancoats and New Islington, and is a 20 minute walk from the city centre along the canal.
The project: Our first Meanwhile Manchester project will provide much-needed, affordable studios and light industrial style workspaces very near to the centre of Manchester in converted shipping containers.
Around 30 ready-to-move-into pilot project spaces will be available summer 2019, on a site with a pretty basic set up as we start to put infrastructure in place.
We’re also making the rest of the land available to local event, festival and market organisers in need of outdoor space in central Manchester.
Later in 2019, we’ll go big. We’ll be adding up to another 200 affordable container workspaces, alongside investing more heavily in the site, shared facilities and breakout space.

More on the spaces: Our containers offer ground level access, security and natural light from the front aspect. They are perfect workspaces for makers and hands-on creative practitioners.
Among those working from our sister project Cardiff Containers are a beautician, radio station, guitar luthier, graphic designer, music producer, illustrator and barista.
Pilot project spaces:
