After seeing and admiring more and more of Jenna’s work on Instagram we thought it the perfect opportunity to speak to her for our first Say hello blog from Pollard Yard. Read on to hear from Jenna, her business, and life from her container.
Jenna! We appreciate you taking the time out of your
busy day to chat to us about your business. How long
have you had a container at Pollard Yard? And is this
your first studio space?
I moved in on the 1st October. This is my first workshop space with my business, it’s great having my own space. Being able to work as early or as late as I want and not disturb anyone.
Why Manchester? Why Ancoats?
For me Ancoats is a great location, it’s perfect for me travelling to customers with great road links. For my fabric printing I’m literally less than 2 miles away from them so that I can just pop over and drop/pick things up. Also, as I work on my own it’s nice to work in an environment where I can see people every day instead of being completely alone, feels more like being part of a small community – that’s great.
Can you sum up what your business does and when was your business started?
I started my business in about August this year, so I’m really new to this at the moment, but there has been an amazing response. I re-upholster old chairs and create new bespoke furniture like footstools and soft furnishings. I design fabric in-house so this makes the pieces completely unique to my brand.
Your designs are gorgeous. How did the business start?
I originally studied fashion at university and although I really enjoyed it, I knew that I wanted to be more interior led and I’d love the idea of being able to print my own designs onto fabric. I love all things interiors and the idea of having a one-off piece of furniture that no one has, when I couldn’t find what I wanted I decided to retrain in upholstery and be able to make the cool furniture I wanted.
So, what are the best bits of your job?
Bringing an old tired chair back to life and seeing the finished project.
Where can we see your products?
Are you at any upcoming events?
I’ll be at the Great Northern Christmas Markets in December with my soft furnishings and a small collection of my footstools.
See ya there!
