Meanwhile in Bristol: Things To Do Summer 2016

Last season we bought you seven of the craziest things to do in Bristol. It seems a list of seven wasn’t quite long enough, so our Summer list of things to do contains 14 weird and wonderful events.
1) Tea on a narrowboat
25th April – 25th September
Relax on a boat ride along the river Avon before stopping for afternoon tea at Beese’s.
2) Tyntesfield Victorian Festival
30th April – 19th May
Tyntesfield makes it to our list again. This time they are hosting a month long Victorian festival, featuring the likes of Queen Victoria and Mr Brunel. For the full lineup, head to their website.
3) Briswool
14th May – 12th June
Remember last year when the city was taken over with yarn bombs? This year has an even bigger and better knitted event. The whole city is being remade in wool form, and you can go and visit it. Briswool is so incredible that it merits multiple photos, so here it another of College Green.
4) Twilight Tour of Blaise Castle
14th May
Blaise Castle is enchanting in the day. On the 14th May it becomes even more so. You can meander around the grounds at dusk amongst an installation of light and sound. There is also a performance by the Travelling Light Theatre Company.
5) Solstice Garden Party
18th June
If the list so far has been too tame for you, fear not. Motion are hosting a daytime Solstice party with a house and disco lineup and (hopefully) sunshine.
6) Moon Princess
7th May
Bristol’s Leigh Woods hosts a promenade performance based on the traditional Japanese story the Moon Princess. The show combines aerial acrobatics, live music and storytelling.
7) Cycle Sunday
22nd May
Between 9-12am, The Downs is a no-go for cars. Instead, bikes will take over the park for some traffic-free cycling and plenty of fun activities. Find out more on the event page.
8) This is not a magic show
20th May
In a conversational yet crafted approach, Vincent Gambini presents astonishing close-up magic that invites us to question how enchantment and wonder are produced within a theatrical situation. Head to the Mayfest website to grab your tickets.
9) Duckling Day at Slimbridge
28th May – 5th June
Is there anything cuter than welcoming hundreds of ducklings into the world? Didn’t think so. You can go and do just that at Slimbridge wetland centre. Better yet, you’re supporting conservation when you go.
10) Vegfest
21st – 22nd May
Bristol is proud to host Europe’s biggest vegan event. Whether you’re vegan, trying to make ethical choices, or you just enjoy food, there is something to try at Vegfest, from talks to live music, and of course scrumptious foodstuffs.
11) 40s Make-up lessons at Thornbury Castle
13th May
Thornbury Castle bring you make-up tuition with a difference in this event. You learn to recreate the definitive 40s look with the help of experts, using traditional 40s makeup .
12) Fish and Chips on The Matthew
5th May – 2nd July
There probably aren’t many better ways to celebrate Bristol than some good old fish and chips aboard The Matthew. They are also providing a veggie option.
13) Bristol’s Naked Bike ride
4th June
In case Cycle Sunday wasn’t out there enough for you, Bristol is also home to the World Naked Bike Ride, complete with after party. The ride is flat and ‘family friendly’, and nudity is not compulsory. The theme is ‘as bare as you dare’, which you are free to interpret as you wish.
