Mute Collective Presents: Off The Press – Live Printing Weekend

A unique opportunity to engage with Bristol’s creative underground.

On the weekend of the 25^th & 26^th of July, arts and apparel collective Mute present Off The Press, a free weekend-long event showcasing the best live music, street food, and creative design Bristol has to offer.

Saturday 25^th July // PAPER // 51- 53 Merchant Street, Broadmead, BS1 3EE .

Saturday’s live printing event takes place at the PAPER arts studio- situated above Co-LAB in the city centre. Visitors will have the opportunity to create their own one-off garment by choosing a design from a diverse selection of local artwork which will then be screen-printed on to a piece of their choice from Mute’s brand new Summer 2015 collection. Artwork on screen for the event is from existing Mute artists: James Eisner, Mike Higgins, Emily Mercer, Jim Lineker, Matthew Jackson, Von Grey and Stuart Withers.

Also in attendance will be psychedelic Liverpool design collective Bruïsed Studio and snow sports specialists Snomads. The Bulgaria-based Snomads crew are set to treat Off The Press to their famous organic mezze alongside street indoboarding sessions designed to test the mettle and balance of the more adventurous attendees, and rumour has it that there may be a holiday to their native town of Bansko up for grabs!

Staying true to Co-Lab’s local ethos, the gallery will be exhibiting the technicolour abstractions of Bristolian designer Joe Read and rich, organic line work by Scott Edwards with original prints from both artists available for purchase. Breaks and bassline specialists Adaptive will be sound tracking the day, spinning records on the PAPER balcony from midday.

Sunday 26^th // The Steam Crane // 4-6 North Street, Bedminster, BS3 1HT

The Sunday leg of the weekend sees Off The Press move South of the river to The Steam Crane. Once again, Mute and Bruïsed are conducting live printing workshops inside, whilst the spacious garden plays host to live art demos dozens of graffiti artists as part of the world-renowned Upfest. Market stalls will be sharing the outdoor space with a variety of stalls selling handmade goodness from Bristol’s finest creative traders.

No Sunday would be complete without some liquid refreshment, so Mute have drafted in Cornwall’s Black Flag Brewery to pitch up an alfresco bar serving over 20 different craft beers. Culinary treats abound in the form of a pan-asian noodle station serving up wholesome and authentic street food all day long.

It’s no secret that The Steam Crane excels as a live music venue, and visitors to the pub on Sunday can expect to be treated to performances from Alisha Todd, James Paton, Saskia Maxwell, Red Ray and Them Old Boots.
