Kris is one of our newest tenants at Pollard Yard, moving in as part of our Phase 3 development.
Kris, it’s lovely to talk to you. Can you tell us a bit more about yourself and Schdoo?
Schdoo is my latest project which started in January 2020, however I’ve been creating shows, websites, writing books, albums, soundtracks for attractions for about 20 years.
Schdoo is an ambitious venture/vision to create an online home for the performing arts. It launched prior lockdown and ended up being put on pause due to the uncertainty of the pandemic (basic bad timing!). It should be revitalised and back online within the coming months. The container however will be my multipurpose hub for projects, possible future popups and home of Schdoo.
How did Schdoo come about?
One of the main elements came from a conversation with a friend…”there really should be an IMDB for theatre!”
And why did you chose Manchester?
I’ve lived in a few cities across Europe like Paris, Barcelona, Lausanne and simply picked Manchester as a gut feeling from a map with a desire to move back home to the UK. I’ve now lived here for 3 years and love it.
So, is this your first studio space?
Yes, for many years I’ve always been a bit of a hermit working from various home offices but now I’m really looking forward to being part of the community.
That’s great to hear you want to be part of the community at Pollard Yard. Will you be working on your own in the studio or are there other member of the team?
I mainly work on my own but collaborate a lot with others depending on the requirements / size of task and who’s project it is.
We’re very close to the new year now, what’s next for you in 2021?
The relaunch of Schdoo.com and probably a much needed update to krisoliver.com too!
And have you got any big clients or projects that you can tell us about?
Now that would be telling! 😉
Fair enough! Can you tell us one interesting fact about you or your business?
| I used to design immersive attractions for theme parks and started out as a dancer. |
What are the best parts of your job?
| When people reach out to me organically from across the world or friends of friends to share new projects. It’s always a nice surprise. |
… And the toughest?
| Knowing when to call things finished. |
Looking back at your career, is there any advice you
would have given yourself at the beginning?
Be ready for anything, it doesn’t always go to plan but that’s not a bad thing!
Lastly, tell us about some of the other projects you’re involved with.
There’s a few in the pipeline for next year but I’m always really happy to hear about new projects or be a sounding board for ideas. So if you’re walking past container 16 please don’t hesitate to knock on the door and say hello!
