Living in a city, it can be hard to find that perfect sun spot to laze and share a pint or two with pals. Here, we’ve collated some of our favourite Bristol sun traps, just in time for the heatwave. Don’t forget the suncream!

(Not in any particular order)

Arnolfini

Dangle your feet over the quayside and watch the boats come and go as the sun goes down. Every Friday during the summer they also have Harbour Nights – grab a beer, tuck into some delicious street food and, when you’re pleasantly satiated have a boogie to one of their DJs to finish off the night.

The White Lion

You can’t beat The White Lion for views. Nestled against the Avon Gorge, this space is a treat for locals and visitors alike and gets the sun pretty much all day long. Just how we like it!

The Victoria Park

If you’re around Bedminster way then you’re in for a treat at The Victoria Park. Their sloping garden gets sun for the majority of the day and gives gorgeous views of the city and further over Dundry.

Grain Barge

Well, it’s on a boat so it’s not surrounded by towering buildings which is why the Grain Barge is a good choice for those on the hunt for a sun trap (it is docked though, so don’t head down expecting a tour down the river). With a wide selection of craft ciders, beers, wines and coffees this is one of our favourites for passing an early evening or afternoon in the heat.

Beese’s

We can’t get enough of Beese’s. This spot, alongside the river is a bit of a walk out of the centre, but well worth it. It’s £1 for the return boat ride across, or swim back across if you will (potentially not encouraged – but it’s great fun). As it’s a little further out it’s definitely an all day hang out spot as opposed to somewhere to go for a quick pint.

The Grace

One of the few places up Gloucester Road with a decent garden, this hidden gem is perfect for those north of the river looking for an all day long sun spot. It gets super busy so get down there early to snap up a table.
NB – They also do a fantastic Sunday roast.
