Creative Coworking: The Creative Block and How to Beat It

Jeremy Kyle

We’ve all had that time in our work lives when you find yourself sitting and staring at the computer screen or a blank sheet of paper and nothing happens. Whilst for some it might mean a few lost hours or perhaps a day, the professional creative simply can’t abide this barricade of the brain, let’s sort this creative block out.

Clean Workspace, Clean Mind…

Messy Desk
…or more importantly, a messy workspace equals a messy mind. Get your stuff sorted into organised chaos at the bare minimum. It can help clear a mental void by giving the day a productive start and it will put you in problem solving mood – perfect for the start of a project.

Productive Procrastination

Productive Procrastination
Creativity is contagious, give yourself fifteen minutes to look at some cool yet relevant blogs, Instagrams or Pinterest pages. Be strict with yourself and don’t lose hours and hours aimlessly surfing, this should be a short burst of creative input to get you pumped up and inspired again.

Back of the Net

Set yourself goals. These can be targets for the following hour, day, week or longer, the important bit is making them achievable and sticking to them. How about a certain number of words per hour, or a new design drafted by lunchtime? Once set, crack your knuckles and it’s down to business.

It’s All About Routine

Get a proper morning routine together, whether it’s yoga and muesli or a bacon sandwich and Jeremy Kyle, whatever works for you. Get your show back on the road and in a regular routine.

Learn to Take a Break

Take a Break

When you’re in poor health or have bigger things in life to deal with it’s important to give yourself a chance to get back into the swing of things. Take a finite amount of time to recuperate and don’t even think of working in this period.

So, no more excuses, get cracking creatives!
