Say Hello: Always Bonita Beauty

Arianne was one of the first tenants to move into our Cardiff Containers and after much success, moved into a larger unit within the main Meanwhile House building!

So Arianne, tell us a little about your business. What is that you do? And how long have you been doing it for?

My business started around Jan 2018 when I was a mobile beautician and sometimes worked from home. I have been in and out of the beauty industry for 10 years.

My business specialises in semi permanent eyelash extensions. You might be reading this and wondering what it means – we basically enhance your natural lashes by application of extensions to them. I also work with one of the leading lash companies LashBase offering training to new people or people who have previously trained.

How did the Always Bonita Beauty start?

The business started via hard work and dedication! I used to be a restaurant manager and while on maternity I realised that working hours along with working mama wasn’t going to work, so I decided to set up my beauty business and go on my own.

And can you tell us one interesting fact about your business?

People think my name’s Bonita (Always Bonita Beauty) but my name’s Arianne. Bonita actually means ‘beautiful’ in Portuguese (I’m half Portuguese). I’ve also won 3 awards so far this year!

Anything coming up in the next 6 months? What’s new?

My next big move is my first event that I will be hosting in Cardiff. I have others from the industry coming down and doing talks and workshops with people travelling from across the U.K.

When I do events I always like to have a charity that we raise money for. In January we managed to raise money for Welsh Heart and in my September event we will be supporting Maggie’s Centres and the Jacob Abraham Foundation.

What are the best and toughest parts of being a freelance lash specialist?

The best: Making others feel great and helping others in the industry on their journeys to being the best they can be!
The toughest: Juggling 2 kids, clients, students, teaching, house, unit and everything in between – many think going self-employed can be easier. As did I! However it can be very daunting trying to organise that work / life balance.

If you could have given yourself advice when you first started,
what would you have said? And what would you say to
people wanting to set out on their own freelance journey?

Yes, take more time for myself and appreciate my journey and don’t let others get in your way. People can become judgemental and what might work for you might not work for them! But remember that it’s okay and you’re still bossing it! Also, take a day off and don’t feel guilty.
