Meanwhile in Bristol: Stop Being Boring and Do Something New

It’s the second in our BS1 Bits series on working in the centre of our marvellous city. This time, Emma is sharing some cracking ways to make the most of your lunch hour. Check it out:

Hit a Gallery, Bristol-Style

Head towards the Harboursider to catch Banksy’s latest piece on his home turf. Grab an artsy photo from an obscure angle, stick a filter on it and upload to Facebook for instant social media plaudits. The guerrilla artist’s latest masterpiece is a take on Vermeer’s Girl with a Pearl Earring, we love it.

Go to Church, Sinner

You may walk or drive past it everyday on your way to work but have you ever popped in to St Mary Redcliffe Church? Go in and have a stroll around, admire the stain glass windows and the incredible spire. People have been visiting for about 900 hundred years so it must be worth a look!

Have a Quick Picnic

Make the most of the gert lush sunshine we’ve been enjoying and crack out the french stick and cheese. Encourage your favourite colleagues to join you and head for Queens Square or Castle Park. That vitamin-D deficient look of yours will be a thing of the past!

Be a Cheeky Monkey

Come July, Bristol will be invaded by an army of fibreglass sheep by the name of Shaun. Each ovine animal has been careful designed and painted by artists and the odd celebrity too. With a flock of seventy on their way, see how many you can spot in your lunch break.

Learn Stuff about Things

If you’re lucky enough to get an hour for lunch, it’s just about enough time to take a flying visit around Brunel’s SS Great Britain. Prepare to sound bewilderingly intelligent with your armoury of facts about Bristol’s favourite boat.

Pretend to be a Culture Vulture

As you stroll along the Harbourside pop into the world-renowned Arnolfini gallery. With visual arts, performance, dance and film events taking place throughout the year, you never know what you might find, plus it’s free to get in!

Sack it All Off and Shoot Some Lasers

Last but certainly not least, challenge your team at work to a Laser Quest battle on Nelson Street. Be sure to get embarrassingly competitive and sweaty, losers buy the drinks afterwards. Maybe save this one for Friday and see where the afternoon takes you.
